Stress Less, Live More: Calming Tricks for Busy Minds

A little stress can help us meet a deadline or rise to a challenge, but when it never switches off it starts to affect the whole body. Ongoing stress can disturb sleep, upset digestion, raise blood pressure and leave you feeling tired and short-tempered. Learning a few calming tricks gives your mind and body the chance to reset, even on the busiest days.

Pause and breathe

Slow breathing is among the quickest ways to calm your nervous system. Breathe in gently through your nose, let your belly rise, then breathe out slowly through your mouth. Repeat for a few moments whenever you feel tension building, at your desk, in the car or before bed.

Move your body, clear your head

Physical activity burns off stress hormones and releases feel-good chemicals in the brain. A walk at lunchtime, gentle yoga in the evening or dancing in the kitchen all count. Being outdoors adds an extra boost, so look for chances to get some fresh air and daylight.

Protect your rest and connections

Good sleep makes stress easier to handle, so keep a regular bedtime and give screens a break before sleep. Talking with friends, family or a professional also lightens the load. You do not have to manage everything on your own.

Calm is a skill, not a personality type. The more you practice, the easier it becomes.
